Samuel Eto’o Accused of Routing $567,570 Russia Friendly Fee to Personal Account
Cameroon football legend Samuel Eto’o has been accused of mishandling funds from Cameroon’s October 2023 international friendly against Russia in Moscow. Documents reportedly reviewed by an international publication indicate that two payments totalling $567,570, about ₦752 million, were transferred by the Russian Football Union to Eto’o’s personal bank account in Qatar instead of an official FECAFOOT account. Former FECAFOOT executives claim the money does not appear in the federation’s financial records and say they filed complaints with FIFA’s ethics committee more than a year ago. FIFA has reportedly not provided a substantive update. Eto’o and FECAFOOT had not responded to requests for comment at the time of the report. The claims remain allegations, and no wrongdoing has been formally established.
