FOSAD Condemns Xenophobic Attacks in South Africa, Warns Against Diaspora Coronations
The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) has strongly condemned the recent xenophobic violence in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. The unrest followed the unauthorized coronation of an Igbo traditional ruler in the diaspora. FOSAD warns that installing an “Eze Ndigbo” outside Igboland often fuels misunderstanding and can provoke violent backlash. The forum aligns with South-East traditional rulers who insist that only leaders crowned within their ancestral communities hold legitimate authority. The group calls on all Igbo people abroad to cease foreign coronations and refrain from recognizing any self-styled king without proper state certification. FOSAD also urges Nigerian diplomatic missions and community leaders to strengthen cultural orientation and conflict prevention efforts. In closing, FOSAD expresses solidarity with the victims of the South Africa unrest. The forum appeals for calm, dialogue, and responsible leadership to safeguard Igbo lives, property, and reputation.
