Two Residents Die Within 24 Hours After Snakebite in Taraba Border Community
Two residents of Lissam Sambo (Pangtso) community in Ussa Local Government Area of Taraba State have died within 24 hours after separate snakebite incidents. One of the victims, Elder Bako Awanki, died on Thursday evening, 23 July 2026, while the second victim passed away later that same night. Community leaders say the deaths could have been prevented if anti-snake venom and proper medical care were available nearby. They explained that residents in the remote border community often depend on traditional treatment because the nearest health facilities are far away. The community is now appealing to the local government and the Taraba State health authorities to urgently supply anti-snake venom and strengthen emergency care in the area.
