Court Hears Rivers State Spent Over ₦302bn in Six Months Under Ibok-Ete Ibas
In Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Accountant-General and the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning told the High Court that over ₦302 billion was spent between March and August 2025 under former sole administrator Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd). This disclosure came in response to a Freedom of Information suit filed by SERAP. Their counter-affidavit of 10 March 2026 states that the state received ₦253.48 billion in FAAC allocations and ₦44.87 billion from other sources during the period. Bank statements and government estimates submitted as exhibits detail spending on salaries, pensions, loan servicing, CCTV installations and Government House projects. SERAP’s deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare, said the group is now analysing each project and will decide if further requests or amendments are needed. The records highlight large transfers to Government House and a concentration of spending in August. SERAP is seeking a judicial ruling on its right to access the information under the Nigerian Constitution and the Freedom of Information Act. The case has been adjourned to 19 May 2026 for further hearing.
