Abuja to Host Over 1,000 Young Swimmers for African Invitational Championship
More than 1,000 swimmers aged 14 to 18 from 32 African countries are expected in Abuja for the maiden African Invitational Swimming Championship. The competition will hold from December 14 to 20, 2026, at the MKO Abiola National Stadium. Athletes will compete in about 32 events, giving emerging swimmers a chance to gain international experience and test themselves against rivals from across the continent. Africa Aquatics, the Nigeria Aquatics Federation and the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa are collaborating on the event. Organisers say preparations are underway to host the athletes and use the championship to boost youth participation, facilities and interest in swimming in Nigeria.
