14-Year-Old Student Struck and Killed by Lightning in Lapai, Niger State
A 14-year-old student of Police Secondary School in Minna lost his life after lightning struck during an evening storm in Lapai. The incident happened around 6pm on Monday, June 8, 2026, while the teenager and friends were playing football at the Government Girls’ Day Secondary School field. When heavy rain and strong winds set in, they sought shelter under a tree. A community resident told a local newspaper that lightning hit the tree directly, killing the boy on the spot. Neighbours and classmates have since been left in mourning over the sudden loss. Residents are calling for greater awareness of weather risks and safety measures during storms in local communities.
