Okoronkwo Says Super Falcons Started Flat in Shock 3-2 Loss to Malawi

Okoronkwo Says Super Falcons Started Flat in Shock 3-2 Loss to Malawi

Esther Okoronkwo says the Super Falcons started flat in their shock 3-2 defeat to WAFCON debutants Malawi in their opening Group C match. Temwa Chawinga scored twice and Tabitha Chawinga added the third for Malawi. Rasheedat Ajibade and Uchenna Kanu scored Nigeria’s goals. Okoronkwo said the team must learn from the loss and return stronger against Zambia. She also felt a penalty appeal after she was brought down in the box should have been reviewed. Nigeria now need a positive result against Zambia, who opened their campaign with a 6-0 win over Egypt, to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.

What do fans think was behind the flat start, especially with Malawi taking such an early advantage in the group opener?

Was the slow start more about preparation issues, or did Malawi simply execute better early on?

Nigeria did find two goals through Ajibade and Kanu, but conceding three made the slow opening especially costly.

The flat start mattered, but reducing the result to that alone may overlook other issues in the game.

Calling it only a flat start may be too simple; Malawi also had decisive scorers in Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga.

The next match should be about starting sharper and tightening up early, because Group C leaves little room for another defeat.
