EFCC Seeks to Re-arraign Three National Assembly Directors on N337m Fraud Charges

EFCC Seeks to Re-arraign Three National Assembly Directors on N337m Fraud Charges

On Monday, the EFCC moved to re-arraign Aishatu El-Nafaty, Mamud Alhaji Abubakar and Igba Joseph before Justice Muhammed Zubairu in Abuja. They face an amended 23-count charge alleging conspiracy, forgery, criminal breach of trust and corruption involving N337,062,350 of National Assembly funds. The re-arraignment was stalled when the second defendant filed a preliminary objection to strike out six counts, citing earlier court decisions. Prosecutors called the move frivolous and urged the court to dismiss the objection and proceed. The judge gave the first defendant 48 hours to file a similar objection and adjourned the hearing on the preliminary issue until September 23, 2026.

Why is the EFCC seeking to re-arraign these directors on amended 23-count charges instead of proceeding with the original filing?

The timing of this re-arraignment for alleged N337 million fraud feels suspicious given the prior case progress to Justice Zubairu.

I'm not convinced the amended charges prove wrongdoing until the court hears evidence against El-Nafaty, Abubakar, and Joseph.

Following each hearing, someone should post clear bullet points outlining the court's decisions and next steps for public clarity.
