Lagos Warns Public Estate Residents Against Unapproved Building Changes
The Lagos State Government has warned residents of its public housing estates that it may take legal action against allottees who breach their allocation terms. At a stakeholders’ forum in Choice City Housing Estate, Agbowa-Ikosi, officials cautioned residents against unauthorised structural alterations, commercial activities and other violations of estate rules. Residents must also obtain approval before modifying buildings or installing solar inverter systems. The ministry said allottees are liable for violations by their tenants. It also urged residents to maintain their surroundings, pay required contributions and insurance premiums, and cooperate with facility managers. Residents commended recent improvements, including solar streetlights, fencing, roads and water points, while requesting more roads, streetlights, recreation facilities and a shopping complex.
