South-West States Seek Better Storage and Logistics to Tackle Food Prices
Lagos and other South-West states are reviewing ways to cut post-harvest food losses, improve transportation and storage, and make food more available and affordable. At a three-day regional food systems review in Ikeja, officials said increased farm output alone would not lower prices if produce continues to spoil during preservation, storage and transport. They identified cold-chain facilities, temperature-controlled vehicles, better market organisation and food traceability as key needs. Participants from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states are also expected to contribute to a common operating framework for food-security programmes. The meeting is expected to produce recommendations on stronger coordination, clearer institutional roles and improved accountability across the region.
