Ejiofor Urges Young Lawyers to Build Success on Patience and Professional Ethics
Human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor says being called to the Bar does not automatically bring wealth, influence or professional success. He urged young lawyers to embrace apprenticeship, continuous learning, discipline and patience while building their careers. Reacting to Prof. Yusuf Ali’s “Rookie to Rainmaker” lecture at the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Ejiofor said a sustainable legal practice depends on competence, character, integrity and an earned reputation. He warned against the growing desire for quick success in the profession. According to him, the NBA must do more than make conference resolutions by enforcing ethical standards and strengthening accountability for professional misconduct. Ejiofor added that the future of the Nigerian Bar depends not only on producing more lawyers, but on producing lawyers who are trusted, competent and committed to ethical practice.
