Germany Break Three World Cup Records in 7-1 Rout of Curaçao
Germany opened their 2026 World Cup campaign with a commanding 7-1 victory over debutants Curaçao. Felix Nmecha struck early before Curaçao’s Livano Comenencia levelled in the 21st minute. Nico Schlotterbeck and Kai Havertz (penalty) restored Germany’s lead by half-time. The second half saw goals from Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, Havertz again and Deniz Undav to complete the rout. This result makes Germany one of only five teams in this century to score seven or more goals in a World Cup match. Three notable records fell in Miami. Germany now account for three of those five high-scoring games since 2000. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, at 40 years and 79 days, became Germany’s oldest player at a major tournament. Curaçao became the first World Cup debutants since Nigeria in 1994 to score within their opening 21 minutes.
