FG Introduces 14 New HND Curricula for Environmental and Public Health Courses

FG Introduces 14 New HND Curricula for Environmental and Public Health Courses

The Federal Government, through the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria, has introduced 14 new Higher National Diploma curricula for environmental health technology, public health technology, and epidemiology and disease control programmes. The curricula are intended for Nigerian polytechnics and monotechnics. They replace broad-based training with specialised, competency-driven education focused on sanitation, food safety, waste management, pollution control, disease surveillance, climate action, and occupational safety. The council said institutions will need qualified lecturers, functional laboratories, modern equipment, teaching materials, and field-training opportunities for effective implementation. It also plans to work with the National Board for Technical Education on training, accreditation, quality assurance, and periodic reviews. Officials said the programmes are designed to produce employable graduates who can also develop practical solutions and services for environmental and public health challenges in their communities.
