Olu Jacobs Remembered as a Pillar of Nigerian Theatre and Nollywood
Veteran actor Olu Jacobs is being remembered for a career that connected Nigerian theatre, international stage productions and Nollywood. His performances in films such as Blood Money, Glamour Girls, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel and Dry made him one of the most recognisable voices and faces in Nigerian cinema. Born Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs in Abeokuta, Ogun State, he spent part of his childhood in Kano and trained in Theatre Arts in the United Kingdom. After appearing in British television and international productions, including The Dogs of War, he returned to Nigeria in the early 1990s and became a major influence on the growing Nollywood industry. Jacobs acted in more than 100 Nigerian films and co-founded the Lufodo Group with his wife, actress Joke Silva. Political leaders, actors and entertainers have paid tribute to his contributions, describing him as a mentor, cultural icon and enduring inspiration to generations of performers.
