Akwa Ibom Official Lawrence Iquaibom Named ITO for 2026 Weightlifting World Championships
Akwa Ibom-born weightlifting official Lawrence Iquaibom has been appointed as an International Technical Official for the 2026 International Weightlifting Federation World Championships in Ningbo, China. Iquaibom is the only Nigerian selected to officiate at the event, which runs from October 27 to November 8. The assignment will be his fourth international competition of 2026, following events in Egypt and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The retired Akwa Ibom civil servant thanked the state government and the Ministry of Sports for their support, saying institutional backing helps sports officials represent Nigeria on the international stage.
