Produce for Lagos: ₦500bn Off-Take Guarantee and Origin Tech’s Drive for Food Security

Produce for Lagos: ₦500bn Off-Take Guarantee and Origin Tech’s Drive for Food Security

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched the Produce for Lagos programme with a ₦500 billion off-take guarantee fund. Ogun, Niger, Kogi and Taraba states signed a memorandum to supply paddy rice, grains, legumes and tubers to meet Lagos’s vast food demand. At the event, Prince Joseph Samuel of Origin Tech Group explained how organising demand first, then scaling production, can correct decades of disorder in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain. Origin Tech has over 30 years of experience in mechanisation and supply chain solutions, serving 1.8 million clients across four continents. Lagos is also constructing Africa’s largest food logistics hub and investing in cold storage, transport infrastructure and aggregator networks. The framework aims to de-risk agriculture, cut post-harvest losses and open low-risk financing to farmers. With private support from groups like Heirs Holdings and collaboration among states, Produce for Lagos could become a blueprint for national food security, stable prices and profitable farming.

With ₦500bn off-take guarantee, how can smallholder farmers ensure they actually benefit from Produce for Lagos initiative?

A fund of this size will need tight oversight; otherwise, delays and red tape could undermine Lagos's food security goals.
