Divine Rest: Trusting God in Sleep, Stillness and Dreams
Many believers equate spiritual growth with constant activity, long vigils and exhaustion. Prayer and fasting have their place, but rest is also part of trusting God. Scripture teaches that God speaks in different ways and gives sleep to those He loves. Divine rest means releasing the pressure to control every outcome. In the Bible, Adam slept while God created Eve, Abraham rested while God confirmed His covenant, and Joseph’s dreams became part of his journey to leadership. These stories remind us that God can work even when we are unable to do anything ourselves. There is a difference between spiritual slumber and holy stillness. Spiritual slumber is indifference towards God, while holy stillness is resting with a peaceful and surrendered heart. At times, stepping away from worry and getting proper sleep can bring clarity, renewed strength and wisdom for the next day. Faith is not measured by sleepless effort alone. As we pray, work, care for our families and rest, we can trust God with our lives. Jesus invites everyone carrying heavy burdens to come to Him and receive rest.
