CCRP Slams CHSR Over Ajiran Detention, Demands Rule of Law
The Centre for Citizens Right Protection (CCRP) has rejected allegations by the Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) in the ongoing Ajiran Community crisis. At a recent press conference, CCRP accused CHSR of a politically motivated campaign to discredit its advocacy for justice and citizens’ rights. CCRP stressed the constitutional principle of presumption of innocence and warned against media trials that elevate untested police claims into facts. The group questioned the continued detention of Alhaji Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi despite existing court orders and delays in legal guidance from the Lagos State Attorney-General’s office. Rejecting suggestions it obstructs investigations, CCRP insisted its call for due process strengthens, not hinders, justice. The organization urged prosecutorial authorities to either file charges promptly or release the suspect, and called on law enforcement and legal agencies to respect court orders and expedite necessary advice. CCRP reaffirmed its commitment to constitutional governance and equal application of the law, warning that selective justice and media-driven narratives threaten public confidence in democratic institutions.
