Higuain was sent off after he reportedly squeezed the official’s hand and refused to release it when asked. He also told her that football was a man’s game. The league imposed a two-match suspension, but the Professional Soccer Referees Association said the punishment was insufficient. The union said female officials deserve respect, dignity and a safe working environment.
