Mother Says She Paid ₦6 Million Ransom for Freed NYSC Member
The mother of a prospective NYSC member abducted while travelling from Ibadan has said her family paid ₦6 million to secure his release. The corps members were reportedly kidnapped on October 1 after gunmen attacked two buses travelling along the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway. According to the mother, the abductors initially demanded ₦50 million for each victim before reducing the amount after negotiations. She said families were instructed to send representatives to Ibadan and later convert the money to dollars in Imo State. The mother confirmed that her son and the other victims had been released, describing the period of captivity as deeply traumatic for her family.
