Lagos Father Hails 112 Emergency Team for Saving His Seven-Month-Old Daughter

Lagos Father Hails 112 Emergency Team for Saving His Seven-Month-Old Daughter

A father in Badagry praised Lagos State’s 112 emergency line after it rescued his seven-month-old daughter during a night storm. When the baby’s fever spiked to 38.5°C and roads were flooded, officials guided the family to meet an ambulance 20 minutes after the call. The crew then transported the child 24 km to General Hospital, Badagry, where she received prompt treatment. Thanks to no consultation or ambulance fees, the family spent just ₦14,000 on registration, lab tests and medication — far below the ₦1,400 they would have paid under active state health insurance. He commended the hospital’s cleanliness and staff professionalism, then urged the government to fix the Ibiye–Checkpoint–Magbon Road, expand primary care hours, recruit more doctors, ensure stable power and adopt electronic medical records. Improved infrastructure, he noted, would make future emergency responses even more effective.

How many of us have dialed 112 during a storm in Lagos, and were they as prompt as that Badagry father experienced?

I've tried calling 112 in a Lagos downpour—felt like watching snail speed! So glad they raced to that infant's rescue.

It's impressive they reached the ambulance in twenty minutes through floods, but this might be an exceptional case rather than typical Lagos emergency response.

That might be true, but one success story doesn't guarantee all emergency teams perform similarly across Lagos.

If you have a young child, keep your phone charged and save the 112 line on speed dial to avoid delays during emergencies.
