Anthony Fauci is an American physician-scientist and immunologist who led the United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases from 1984 to 2022. He also served as President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser from 2021 to 2022. Over more than five decades at the National Institutes of Health, Fauci played major roles in research and public-health responses to HIV/AIDS, SARS, Ebola, swine flu and COVID-19. His work on HIV/AIDS and the PEPFAR programme earned him major honours, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Born in New York City in 1940, Fauci studied classics before graduating first in his medical school class. He is married to bioethicist Christine Grady and they have three daughters. His household net worth has been estimated at more than $11 million.
