If God Knows Our Needs, Why Does He Still Ask Us to Pray?

If God already knows everything we need before we ask, why does He still command us to pray? Jesus said that the Father knows our needs, yet He immediately taught His disciples how to pray. This suggests that prayer is not about giving God new information. Prayer is relationship, dependence and participation in God’s purposes. Scripture presents prayer as meaningful: Moses, Hannah, Elijah, the early church and Jesus Himself prayed. God can ordain both an outcome and the prayer through which that outcome comes. Prayer also changes the person praying. We bring our fears, gratitude, burdens and desires before God, and His peace can guard our hearts even before circumstances change. Prayer is not about convincing a reluctant God to care; it is fellowship with the God who already knows and invites us to seek His will.
