NDLEA Incinerates ₦2.8bn of Seized Narcotics in Edo State Crackdown

Under a Federal High Court order, the Edo State Command of the NDLEA destroyed 73,463.21 kg of narcotics with an estimated street value of ₦2.8 billion. The burn took place before government officials, security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders. The bulk of the haul was Cannabis sativa at 73,210.23 kg. Psychotropic substances included 141.81 kg of Tramadol, 8.43 kg of Diazepam and 61.77 kg of Codeine syrup. Smaller quantities of Methamphetamine (2.66 kg), Cocaine (3.74 kg) and Heroin (0.22 kg) were also destroyed. Representing the governor, the First Lady reaffirmed the administration’s support for drug enforcement and announced plans for a modern rehabilitation centre. She warned traffickers to quit operations in Edo State or face intensified action. NDLEA’s chairman described the exercise as a show of national resolve against drug abuse and trafficking. Lawmakers and agency commanders pledged improved funding, better equipment and stronger legal backing to sustain the fight.
