Kenneth Okonkwo Pulls Support From Atiku, Cites South-East Marginalisation
Former actor and APC gubernatorial candidate Kenneth Okonkwo has withdrawn his backing for Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 election. In a post on X, Okonkwo said reports that the ADC coalition may pick its vice-presidential candidate from the South-South would further marginalise the South-East. He noted that the zone has not held the presidency or vice-presidency since 1999 and argued that it would be unjust to deny it the vice-presidency in 2027 after Ralph Nwosu gave up both the party chairmanship and the presidency for national unity. Okonkwo stressed that he entered politics to ensure fair representation for all geo-political zones. He challenged Atiku, who pledged to be the pathway to power for the South-East, to honour that promise by selecting a running mate from the region. While wishing Atiku well, he said he could not campaign for a ticket that excludes South-East representation at the top.
