Court Forfeits N33.6bn of Illicit Opioids Seized at Onne Port
The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has granted an interim forfeiture order for 17 shipping containers carrying illicit opioids valued at over N33.6 billion. The containers, intercepted at Onne Port between April and September 2025, held 19.6 million pills of Tramadol, Tafrodol, Tapentadol and Carisoprodol, plus 2.5 million bottles of codeine syrup. Justice Adamu Turaki Mohammed issued the order on an ex parte motion filed by the NDLEA, vesting custody of the containers and their contents with the agency pending final determination. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd) called the ruling a severe blow to drug cartels’ finances. He commended the judiciary, the Nigeria Customs Service, port stakeholders and international partners for their role in the interdiction process.
