Cape Town–Johannesburg Becomes Africa’s Busiest Air Corridor
New data from the International Air Transport Association shows that the Cape Town–Johannesburg route carried 3.4 million passengers in 2025, making it the busiest in Africa. Business travellers, holidaymakers and government officials rely on daily flights between South Africa’s two economic hubs. The 1 400 km drive can take up to 14 hours, but the two-hour flight is served by multiple airlines throughout the day. Globally, this route ranks below Asia-Pacific connections such as Jeju–Gimpo in South Korea, but it remains vital for tourism, finance and government travel in South Africa.
