17th Lagos Central Methodist Diocese Synod Communiqué on Faith, Governance and Security
The 17th Annual Synod of the Lagos Central Diocese of Methodist Church Nigeria took place at Wesley Methodist Church, Iba, from Friday, 1st to Sunday, 3rd May 2026. It was presided over by Bishop Samuel R. Nortey and Lay President Engr. Kehinde A. Lawal. Under the theme “I will fight for you” (Exodus 14:14), delegates from eight circuits and one special area reflected on deepening prayer life, renewing commitment to holiness, and trusting God for revival and effective evangelism. The Synod celebrated the inauguration of Amuwo Odofin and Alaba Circuits and the Ilogbo Elegba Special Area. It committed the 2027 elections to peaceful conduct, urged politicians to prioritise national unity, and reviewed government palliatives, calling for tighter implementation to ease citizens’ hardships. Concerned about security challenges, delegates appealed for an audit of resources to bolster training and intelligence against terrorism. They closed with prayers for divine guidance for national leaders and lasting peace across Nigeria.
