Calls Grow for WAEC Review Over Alleged CBT Errors in Core Subjects

The 2026 WAEC results have sparked concerns about possible problems with the full rollout of Computer-Based Testing (CBT), especially in Mathematics and English. Some candidates reportedly performed strongly in JAMB and Post-UTME examinations but received low WAEC grades in the core subjects required for admission. Many of those affected are said to have passed their other subjects, raising questions about whether technical issues may have affected the results. WAEC should address these concerns through an independent technical audit, including a review of CBT centre logs and error reports. It should also compare affected candidates' performance across examinations and provide a free remarking window where there are credible grounds for review. Until the infrastructure is independently confirmed to be reliable, compulsory CBT should be reconsidered. Students deserve a system that rewards merit and gives every candidate a fair assessment.
