Lot’s Wife: A Stark Reminder of the Danger in Abusing God’s Grace
Jesus warned that “as it was in the days of Lot” we must not look back (Luke 17:28–32). Lot’s wife had the promise of escape but disobeyed and was turned into a pillar of salt. Her story shows that God’s grace cannot protect those who misuse it. Grace has been available since humanity’s fall. Noah “found grace” long before Christ (Genesis 6:8) because he walked righteously. Abel received mercy for offering what was right (Genesis 4:7; Matthew 23:35), while Cain did not. The people of Nineveh also escaped destruction when they genuinely repented (Jonah 3). Christ’s sacrifice elevated grace into the gift of eternal life, but it still demands true repentance and obedience. Mercy remains for the righteous and the penitent, yet those who cling to sin forfeit it. May we heed these biblical lessons and honor God’s grace with lives of obedience and faith.
