One Year After Yelwata Massacre: A Daughter’s Tribute to Her Mother and Four Siblings
A young woman has marked the one-year anniversary of the brutal attack on Yelwata community in Guma LGA, Benue State. Over 200 lives were lost and more than 3,000 people were displaced between June 13 and 14, 2025. She remembered her mother and four siblings with heartfelt reflections on their smiles, laughter and the love they shared. “Losing you left a space in my heart that can never be filled,” she wrote on social media. Though they are gone, their memories guide and strengthen her. She called on the government to do more to protect communities and prevent further loss of innocent lives.
