Abuja Court Admits Key Fraud Evidence Against Ex-Governor Yahaya Bello
A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama admitted a previous judgment as evidence in the trial of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello on May 5, 2026. The court marked the judgment and a payment receipt as Exhibits AY and AY2. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is prosecuting Bello and two co-defendants on a 16-count charge of criminal breach of trust and money laundering. During proceedings, an internal auditor from the American International School confirmed payment records showing $569,864.12 paid toward school fees for Bello’s children. Defence counsel raised jurisdictional objections, but the court deferred them to prevent interruptions. The trial will continue after the court considers an application under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act for an uninterrupted hearing.
