2023 HDI: Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra and Enugu Rank Among Nigeria’s Top Six States

Four South-East states ranked among Nigeria’s top six in the 2023 Human Development Index (HDI), according to data compiled by Statisense from Global Data Lab. Lagos ranked first with an HDI score of 0.735, followed by Ebonyi at 0.720. Imo, Anambra and Enugu also placed highly. The region performed particularly well in education and health. Ebonyi recorded the country’s highest education index at 0.783 and ranked second in health at 0.712. Imo, Anambra, Enugu and Abia also featured strongly across the two indicators. The figures measure health, education and standard of living. While Lagos and the FCT remained leading performers, the data highlights the South-East’s broad strength in human-development outcomes, with Ebonyi’s second-place overall ranking standing out.
