Making Money vs Building Wealth: Why Profit Alone Is Not Enough
Making money and building wealth are not the same. You can earn a high income and still stay broke if every naira goes into rent, food, bills, lifestyle upgrades and new expenses. Making money is cash flow. Building wealth is what you do with the money after it comes in. Wealth grows through assets that retain value, appreciate over time or generate future income. For a business owner, this can mean expanding profitable inventory, building a customer base, creating reliable systems, strengthening the brand, acquiring productive assets and investing surplus profits. If two entrepreneurs make ₦5 million profit, but one spends it all while the other reinvests in assets and growth, only one is building lasting wealth. Do not only ask how much you earned this month. Ask how much your net worth increased. Build a business that is an asset, not just one that pays today's bills.
