Lasisi Elenu Decries Hospital Bed Shortages After Mother’s Death
Comedian Lasisi Elenu has criticised Nigeria’s healthcare system, saying many patients struggle to get urgent medical attention because public hospitals lack bed space. He recalled losing his mother in 2022 after she was moved between federal hospitals, with the family repeatedly told that no beds were available. He said the experience showed how vulnerable Nigerians can be during medical emergencies. Lasisi called on President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other state governors to improve hospital facilities, staffing and patient care. He also raised concerns about doctors leaving the country and the treatment some patients receive from health workers.
