Lekki Hotel Scam: Woman Held Responsible for ₦1.4M Debt Over Fake Drink Orders

Lekki Hotel Scam: Woman Held Responsible for ₦1.4M Debt Over Fake Drink Orders

A 30-year-old woman, Chioma, says she was deceived by a man posing as Umeh Emmanuella into checking in at Bickley Park Hotel, Lekki. She claims she received a fake payment confirmation for ₦1.2 million and was told hotel staff had verified it. The next day, hotel management denied receiving the funds and demanded she settle the full ₦1.4 million bill. Chioma was then taken to Maroko police station. She alleges the investigating officer ruled her liable despite not questioning the front-desk staff who confirmed the payment. Attempts to contact the man behind the scheme failed after he blocked Chioma and deleted messages. Chioma insists she acted in good faith and is now fearful of wrongful prosecution. There are reports another woman faced a similar charge at the same hotel, suggesting a possible fraud syndicate. Calls are growing for a thorough and impartial inquiry into the hotel’s procedures and the police handling of the case. Chioma is appealing for public and official intervention to clear her name.

How could hotel staff verify a payment so quickly without proper confirmation documents in Chioma's case?

Where did they get proof to validate that payment so fast in Chioma's situation?

E no always mean them no do proper check. Maybe their POS system confirmed payment instantly behind the scenes.

It seems odd that no one noticed the discrepancy between the fake confirmation slip and the hotel's actual billing system.

I'm not convinced Chioma did everything she could to verify the stranger's identity before checking in.

Always request official payment receipts directly from hotel management and verify any large transactions before confirming your stay.
