NDEJM Urges Tinubu to Decentralise Pipeline Surveillance for Host Communities
The Niger Delta Economic Justice Movement has sent an open letter to President Bola Tinubu requesting a review and decentralisation of pipeline surveillance contracts in the region. They argue that local host communities must play a central role in protecting oil and gas infrastructure within their territories. Copied to key leaders in the National Assembly, the National Security Adviser and the Petroleum Minister, the letter cites Sections 256–257 of the Petroleum Industry Act and international guidelines on community rights. It insists that broader community participation will strengthen accountability, transparency and security. The group calls on both chambers of the National Assembly to examine the current surveillance framework and introduce measures that guarantee fairness, inclusion and shared responsibility for protecting vital assets in the Niger Delta.
