Police Force Orders Disciplinary Action After Officer Threatens Citizen in Viral Video
The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the conduct of ASP Newton Isokpehi after a viral video showed him making threatening remarks toward members of the public filming police activities. The Force described his behaviour as unacceptable and inconsistent with its ethics and code of conduct. Inspector-General of Police Rilwan Disu reaffirmed that citizens may lawfully record police operations so long as they do not obstruct duties or endanger safety. ASP Isokpehi has been summoned to the Anambra State Command for immediate disciplinary proceedings. The Force emphasised that recording police work promotes transparency and accountability and should never lead to harassment or intimidation. A follow-up statement on the outcome of the disciplinary process will be issued in due course.
