COOUTH Opens Implant Shop to Support Faster Access to Surgical Care
The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka, has introduced an Implant Shop to improve access to essential materials for specialised surgeries. The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr Maureen Umeakuewulu, said the facility will stock implants used in orthopaedic, neurosurgical and other procedures. These devices can support, replace or stabilise damaged parts of the body. The hospital expects the shop to reduce delays for patients who previously had to source implants outside the facility. This may be especially important for patients with fractures, road-traffic injuries and other trauma requiring urgent surgical intervention. COOUTH said proper quality control and regular supplies of approved implants will be needed to ensure safer and more efficient care.
