Abbas Proposes Digital Land Verification to Protect Nigerian Property Buyers
House of Representatives Speaker Abbas Tajudeen has proposed digital property identification and centralised verification systems to tackle fraud, disputed titles and delays in Nigeria’s real estate market. Speaking at a housing stakeholders’ conference in Abuja, Abbas said buyers should be able to verify a property’s ownership, survey records, planning status and existing claims before paying. He also called for a public register of licensed developers, estate agents and approved projects. He proposed protected accounts for off-plan developments, with developers accessing buyers’ funds only after verified construction milestones. Abbas said the planned National Real Estate Regulatory Authority should coordinate existing agencies, protect investors and help make housing more affordable.
