Heavy Rain Triggers Flash Floods Across Abuja, Submerging Cars and Roads — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Heavy rainfall on Saturday, August 15, 2026, caused flash flooding across parts of Abuja, trapping residents, submerging vehicles and disrupting movement in several districts of the Federal Capital Territory. Worst-hit locations included Wuse 2, Gudu, the Gaduwa-Durumi bridge, Lokogoma, Katampe, Area 8, Mabushi and Asokoro. Floodwater covered roads and entered residential compounds, leaving motorists stranded. Videos from the affected areas showed cars partly or fully submerged. The incident has renewed concerns about drainage maintenance, blocked waterways and development on green spaces. With flood-risk warnings already issued for August and September, residents are urging the FCT administration to improve drainage infrastructure before further heavy rains.

During heavy downpours, avoiding flooded roads and bridges where possible seems wiser than trying to drive through uncertain water levels.
