India Reveal 28-Man Unity Cup Squad as They Gear Up to Face Super Eagles

India Reveal 28-Man Unity Cup Squad as They Gear Up to Face Super Eagles

India coach Khalid Jamil has named a 28-man provisional squad for next month’s Unity Cup in London. The group will gather in Bengaluru for a short camp before departing on May 24 to prepare for the tournament. Jamil will use the camp to assess performances from the Indian Super League and trim the roster to 23 players ahead of the trip. He highlighted the need to use every FIFA window to ready the team for events like the SAFF Championship later this year. India (FIFA 136) will meet Jamaica (71) in one semi-final on May 27, while Nigeria’s defending champions Super Eagles (26) face Zimbabwe (130) at the same time. The two losing teams will play for third place on June 30.

What impact do you think India's 28-man Unity Cup squad announcement will have on their tournament confidence?

I agree, naming 28 players adds depth and healthy competition, boosting morale and belief as they head into the Unity Cup.

Naming a large provisional squad might dilute focus, making it harder for each player to stand out before the tournament kicks off.

Sending that many players to a short Bengaluru camp feels overkill—quality training time gets spread too thin to matter much.

If I were coach, I'd trim the group early and focus on simulated match scenarios to boost team cohesion before London.
