SEDC Vows Transparency, to Submit Procurement Records to Senate by June 23
The South East Development Commission (SEDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to driving infrastructure and social development across the region. Managing Director Mark Okoye announced that the commission will submit detailed procurement records, contract terms, payment schedules and supporting financial documents to the Senate Committee on Development Commissions by June 23. Okoye explained that SEDC prioritised relocating to its designated Enugu headquarters by repurposing an existing state government building rather than incurring the cost of a new facility. The rehabilitation contract was awarded under the Public Procurement Act, with approvals from the Bureau of Public Procurement and the supervising ministry. Since its first fund disbursement after ten months of operation, the commission has covered staff salaries and arrears, capacity training, set up operational bases in Abuja and Enugu, and procured essential ICT infrastructure. With no capital budget released yet, it has relied on internal resources and goodwill to advance project planning. SEDC has engaged consultants for feasibility studies on priority initiatives, including a gas infrastructure partnership with significant energy and industrial impact. The commission is also in talks with Afreximbank to establish a Project Preparation Fund aimed at revitalising moribund industries in the region.
