Zelensky Says Ukraine Has Sent Peace Proposal to U.S. Negotiators

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Kyiv has submitted peace proposals to United States negotiators as efforts to end the war with Russia continue. Zelensky said Washington could help by strengthening Ukraine’s air-defence capacity and increasing pressure on Moscow to pursue an end to the conflict. The details of Ukraine’s proposals have not been made public. The development comes ahead of an expected visit by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Ukraine and Russia. Moscow maintains that any settlement must include Ukraine’s withdrawal from four disputed regions, while Kyiv continues to call for a ceasefire.

What would meaningful U.S. support look like here: stronger air defence, more pressure on Moscow, or both together?

Submitting proposals is important, though it may be too early to treat it as a major breakthrough without any response from Moscow.

Any negotiations should keep air-defence support on the table, since civilian safety cannot wait for a final agreement.
