Pipeline Explosion in Rivers Injures 20, Destroys About 50 Homes in Aleto

A pipeline explosion struck Aleto community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday, leaving about 20 people injured and destroying approximately 50 homes. The fire also consumed commercial stalls, a mechanic workshop and vehicles parked in the area. Injured residents were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Eleme Legislative Council leader Daniel Chuma said authorities had previously reported a gas leak on a section of the pipeline to the company, environmental regulators and the police. He said residents had requested an urgent joint investigation before the explosion occurred.
