FG Orders Tertiary Institutions to Dismiss Students Found Guilty of Kidnapping
The Federal Government has directed Vice-Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts to dismiss students found culpable of kidnapping or related offences after a proper investigation. Education Minister Tunji Alausa issued the directive during a meeting with the management of the Federal University of Lafia. He said tertiary institutions must not become safe havens for criminal elements. Alausa also asked school authorities to strengthen internal intelligence and maintain close contact with the DSS and other security agencies. He said the government is working on a broader plan to improve the Safe Schools Initiative and protect learners on and off campus. The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s position against negotiating with or paying ransom to kidnappers.
