US Pastor Convicted for Embezzling $340K from Church to Fund Gambling

A US pastor and author was convicted this week of stealing over $340,000 from church accounts. Dale Sanders, 56, faced a 25-count indictment including wire fraud, access device fraud, and obstruction. Prosecutors say he diverted funds from two Baptist churches in the New Orleans area between April 2020 and April 2024. He used a church debit card for unauthorized personal transactions, covering gambling, dining, and living expenses. After his indictment, Sanders released a video asking congregants to pray for his enemies and quoting Matthew 5:44. He now faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, supervised release, and mandatory assessment fees. Sentencing is set for October 13.
