FG Sets June 29–July 3 as First-Ever National Learning Assessment Week
The Federal Government has declared June 29 to July 3, 2026 as National Learning Assessment Week, marking the first nationwide diagnostic exercise in all 36 states and the FCT. The initiative aims to gather reliable data on student performance in key subjects like English, Mathematics, Basic Science and Technology, and Citizenship and Heritage Studies. The Ministry of Education emphasises that this is not an exam for certification or promotion, but a diagnostic tool to inform policy reforms, resource allocation and strategies for improving learning outcomes. Preparations began in 2025 with collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Education, UBEC, UNICEF and the World Bank, and assessment tools have been tested and validated. Selected Primary 3 and 5 pupils, JS2 and SS2 students nationwide will participate. Officials describe the exercise as a major step towards a more data-driven education system and stronger accountability in Nigerian schools.
