Four Ugandan Boxers Reportedly Seek Asylum After Glasgow 2026 Games

Four Ugandan boxers reportedly failed to join their teammates for the scheduled trip home after the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The athletes are Angel Katushabe, Nuhu Batte, Ibrahim Khemis and Emily Nakalema. According to Ugandan media reports, the boxers plan to seek asylum, saying they want access to better training facilities and more opportunities to develop their careers. Officials are said to be trying to locate them, while Uganda's Ministry of Education and Sports is expected to comment. Uganda has recorded similar cases at previous Commonwealth Games. Six athletes reportedly stayed behind after the 2018 Gold Coast Games, while two rugby sevens players sought asylum after the 2014 Glasgow edition. Katushabe, Batte and Nakalema exited in the quarter-finals, while Khemis was eliminated in the preliminary rounds.
