The Nigerian Navy and the Arthroscopic and Sports Medicine Society of Nigeria have urged the Federal Government to invest in specialist healthcare across the country. They say upgraded facilities would allow local surgeons to perform world-class knee and orthopaedic surgeries and reduce the need for patients to travel abroad. At a conference and joint medical outreach in Calabar, Surgeon Captain Jonathan Dunya highlighted efforts to strengthen local capacity and showcase the Navy Reference Hospital’s capabilities. He stressed the importance of knowledge transfer among medical professionals to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Ranti Babadola, President of the Arthroscopic and Sports Medicine Society of Nigeria, echoed the call for modern infrastructure to support quality care. During the outreach, 12 residents of Cross River State received free surgeries for ligament tears, meniscus injuries, and chronic knee conditions.
